Iris was married to Stefan Ampenberger, with whom she travelled around SA, painting and exhibiting. After settling in Thaba “Nchu , she was invited to exhibit with the Bloemfontein group in 1964. She worked in oil, charcoal and did some linocuts.

Unlike her husband, who concentrated on landscapes, Iris concerned herself primarily with figure studies
